Sthephan G. Stephansson Poetry

FROM THE ICELANDERS' DAY ADDRESS

Though you travelled far, trod
and traversed every land,
your mind and heart bear
still your homeland's mould;
kin of volcano and icy sea!
sibling of fall and hot pool!
daughter of hillock and heath!
son of skerry and bay!

Over earth or heaven
as your spirit desires,
falls and slopes adorn
all your future lands!
Far on eternity's ocean
your island stands watch:
a spring world without night
where the wilderness shines.

It is an Icelandic dreamland
that you harbour within –
only cliffs grown with flowers,
every glacier cap warm.
kin of volcano and icy sea!
sibling of fall and hot pool!
daughter of hillock and heath!
son of skerry and bay!
